John Luffman Trading has undertaken and successfully completed numerous projects. A few examples are detailed here. Please click on the photos for a closer look.
JLT were contracted by Plymouth City Council to re-profile the old refuse tip ready to take a clay cover. This will prevent water entering the refuse, preventing leaching of tip into water course. JLT made use of 3D Auto Machine Control to provide a quality and fast service. After re-profiling, the area was surveyed, the 3D model was loaded into dozers and 150mm of sand was placed to protect clay liner. The clay liner was then layed into carrier drains at base of tip, followed by .300 sand for protection and finally 200mm of topsoil and seed.
The total area covered was 280,000m2 and JLT was able to place upto 6000m2 per day. The contract was valued at £1.6 million.
JLT were contracted to complete works on the new primary school in Cheriton Fitzpaine, the village had been waiting 2 years for the school. The site was excavated to form platform for the school building and playing fields. JLT carried out all earthworks and groundworks including engineering works.
The 12 month contract was finished ahead of time and had a value of £1.1 million.
JLT were contracted to complete improvements on the Sidmouth Waitrose store including roadworks, carpark and store extensions. All work was completed without the store ever closing down. A new road and entrance into the store was formed including a retaining wall, the old road was removed forming the carpark. Once the new road was in place work commenced on extending the store. All concrete from old walls and stone from road was recycled onsite and used to form the new carpark base.
The contract had a value of £1.9m and the project was completed ahead of schedule.
JLT were contracted to complete work on the new Dartington Primary School. JLT completed all earthworks to form platforms for the new school buildings, playing fields and new play areas. The new school buildings were contructed using timber frame and chestnut roofing tiles to comply with the schools Breeam Excellent rating.
The contract was for 12 months, worth £1.2 million and was completed on time.
JLT worked with WS Atkins on the New Horizons Project in Minehead. The contract included work on new playing fields and Astroturf in conjunction with the new hospital. JLT imported 50,000 tonnes of stone for the project.
The contract is valued at £800,000 and was completed by Christmas 2008.
JLT was contracted to complete a new development for Tesco stores in partnership with Costains. Work completed includes new adopted roads, enabling works, engineering and street furniture including tarmac work. Completed end of September 2008 in 96 days.
The value of the contract was £2 million.
JLT has worked on a new build for ASDA stores in Atlantic Village in partnership with Midas Retail. JLT was awarded 2 contracts, one for engineering and one for groundwork and civil work including drainage, store frame and walls.
The contracts had a combined value of £1.8 million and was completed on time in June 2008.
JLT was instructed to carry out all enabling and and civil works for two new retail outlets in Tiverton to the value of £500,000. The project was completed on time in spring 2008.
JLT was contracted to complete groundworks and roadworks for a number of new business units. It was completed in March 2008.
With exception of the steel frame, JLT were given the complete contract. This included carrying out the earthworks, ground works, tarmacing, streetlights, steel furniture and fencing.
JLT moved 65,000m cubed around the site and moved 25,000m cubed off site. The rock face was cut back by 4m which was 32m up a vertical face and put in attenuation ponds and tanks.
This contract was with Costain's and had a value of £3.4 million and the work was completed within 22 weeks from start to finish.
This contaminated brownfield site was a former concrete yard on the outskirts of Tiverton town centre. To reduce environmental impact, all materials were processed on site and then used to form the foundations of the carpark and the platform for the building
JLT simultaneously completed flood alleviation works for the Environment Agency within the allotted contract time of 26 weeks.
JLT was awarded the contract which had a value of £3.18 million by Midas.
